WEG has just announced new investments for its existing electric motor factory in the city of Linhares, state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The Company´s investment plan up to 2023 is in the range of R$ 178.2 million for the modernization and expansion of the production capacity of electric motors.
As stated by Julio Cesar Ramires, Managing Director of WEG´s Commercial and Appliance Motor Business Unit, this investment, in addition to being a recognized competitive advantage, will also contribute to continuing WEG’s path of continuous and sustainable growth.
“The Linhares industrial park was designed to allow for the gradual and continuous increase in production capacity and meet the company’s expansion plan for the coming years. Thanks to the favorable business initiatives created by the government of Espirito Santo, we have managed to maintain our growth strategy. When we started operations in Linhares in 2010, we had 420 employees and counted on 20,000 square meters of manufacturing facilities. Today the number of employees went up to approximately 3000, with more than 65,000 square meters of manufacturing facilities, while our daily production capacity increased 10 times in this period“, says Júlio.
With this new investment, WEG intends to expand the manufacturing facilities structure in Linhares to 79,000 square meters and hire 250 new employees over the next two years. This Manufacturing Operation became the company’s second largest industrial park in Brazil.
Since August 2009, when deciding to move to Linhares, WEG already invested R$ 257.7 million in that industrial park.

WEG has just announced the installation of a new manufacturing site in the city of Betim, state of Minas Gerais. Focused on the production of E-houses for solar and industrial generation, the new operation counts on 5000 square meters of manufacturing facilities and will generate 100 new jobs in the next three years. “We are the largest manufacturer of electric E-houses in Latin America and this operation will be an important part of our productive capacity in the coming years. It will also strengthen our position in one of the most important markets for electrical equipment for power generation and mining in the country”, says Manfred Peter Johann, WEG Automation Business Unit Managing Director.
In January 2020, WEG acquired, in the same city, one of the most modern manufacturing plants in Brazil for high voltage transformers, mainly dedicated to projects and large transmission lines. As of January 2021, WEG started to manufacture power transformers, shunt reactors, and power autotransformers with voltage class up to 800kV and power rating up to 500MVA. Together, both WEG operations will shortly employ more than 300 people.
“The attractiveness of Minas Gerais, as a place for new investments by WEG, was highlighted after a long analysis considering several alternatives across the country. In addition to the support provided by the Government of the state of Minas Gerais, through the State Investment Promotion Agency – INDI (associated with the Secretariat for Economic Development) and the Municipality of Betim, we will have an excellent market place, including a strategic location, access to main highways, strong industrial background, availability high quality education and technical courses, which provides us with qualified workforce”, explains Manfred.
“Despite the tough time we are facing, due to the covid-19 pandemic, we are happy to know that several companies are investing in Minas Gerais. The WEG project reinforces the favorable business environment that we offer. We are a State that is friendly to those who generate jobs and revenues”, says the Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema.
