WEG supplies large electric motors for cement plant in Colombia

That’s why Cementos Molins, a Colombian cement company, chose WEG large electric motors for installation in its plant. These motors will be driving several plant equipment, including the main mill, which is driven by a 6,200 HP, frame size 800 Master line WEG electric motor.

WEG large transformer is operating at Brazilian Substation Furnas

A new WEG three-phase 350 MVA, 345/20kV stand-by power transformer got into operation on July 16, at the Ibiúna Substation, located in the state of São Paulo. FURNAS invested R$ 18 million (≈USD 3.5 million) in the equipment, which will integrate the DC transmission system of Itaipú.
The improvement in the substation will increase the reliability of the existing installations, allowing the continuity of the operation of all synchronous compensators, with the availability of a stand-by unit for the 4 transformers that serve these machines. A transfer route was also built to speed up handling to replace equipment that can reach 300 tons.
The project was authorized by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), with an implementation period of 36 months, but FURNAS team managed to anticipate the completion of the work by 10 months.
For the replacement of the transformer, civil works were still necessary such as street opening, drainage, grounding and shielding systems of the substation, construction of a new base for the stand-by equipment, in addition to the replacement of the transformer, which involved disassembly, removal and assembly of the equipment, generating around 50 direct jobs and 100 indirect jobs, for a period of one year.

WEG provides large synchronous motors for a refinery in USA

WEG Electric Machinery, one of the manufacturing sites in the US, just delivered 2 large synchronous motors for a customer in the oil and gas industry; meeting their need for quality and reliable products with fast delivery.
The motors are rated for 2850HP 360 RPM 4160V, protected by a WPII (pressurized) type enclosure, and equipped with a custom engineered baseplate.
This Oil & Gas refinery is located in the south western US, this location provides its own unique on-site environmental conditions. The WPII enclosure will protect the electric parts of the motors from the harsh environmental conditions like airborne particles, moisture, and dirt.
One motor will be applied into a reciprocating compressor application. This motor will be replacing the current motor installed on-site. The second motor is a stand-by machine in case a replacement is needed.
One of the main benefits of having a custom engineered baseplate is ease of installation. The installation of a new motor with a custom baseplate is simplified for the customer and allows the customer interchangeability with spare motors. The new motor installed will not require the customer to perform new construction works at the facility to integrate the machine. The base plate also provides to customer ease and simplicity when it comes time to ship.
