Producing clean energy and taking advantage of the hydraulic potential of a river is the main role of hydroelectric power plants. In order to allow them to operate efficiently and safely, a set of quality and reliable equipment built for long continuous operating periods is required. To guarantee the success of this project’s operation, WEG was selected to supply the hidrogenerators for São Roque Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in the municipality of Vargem, the state of Santa Catarina, in Brazil.
Regarded as one of the most important project components, WEG´s package includes three 50.5 MVA, 13.8 kV and 180 rpm SLW 4000 hydrogenerators and the auxiliary equipment.
Weighing 285 tons each and approximately eight meters in diameter, these machineries are the largest electric hydrogenerators ever produced by WEG.With specialized engineering and verticalized production, WEG designs and produces equipment that fully meets our customer’s needs and requirements.
This supply is part of a large infrastructure project that will provide energy for Brazil´s electric system, boosting the region and the country´s economic sector. Dependent on 142 megawatts of installed capacity, the São Roque Power Plant generates enough energy to supply a city with approximately 170 thousand people.

WEG in partnership with Geraforte contributes to a better energy generation in a city of Brazil

Generating energy for a city can be a great challenge, even more so when dealing with the need to sustain energy demand in high season periods, as happens in main tourist cities. A reliable power source is a critical element for these cities to meet the energy demands during certain seasonal periods. In order to be prepared for it, the city of Paraty, located in Brazil, is increasing its substation capacity by another 7.5MVA.
The energy will be provided by Geraforte gensets and they have selected WEG as the alternators supplier for this project. Also, it is a result of WEG experience in power generation business that has already produced over 40 MW of power in alternators.
The project consists of 10 gensets of 750 kVA each and five of them are already under operation. One of the highlights of the project is the installation of the gensets which is inside 40-foot super acoustic containers, over 12 meters long and eight tons each.
Recognized as a tourist destination for thousands of people every year, the city of Paraty stands out nationally for its historical and cultural heritage, will now be more prepared to receive tourists with the partnership of the expertise of WEG and Geraforte solutions.

Os grupos geradores atuarão em regime de serviço de emergência/stand-by, entrando em operação para cobrir falhas inesperadas de falta de energia da rede elétrica e desligamentos programados, mantendo em funcionamento equipamentos essenciais como, computadores, sistemas supervisórios, de medição, controle, painéis de comando, entre outros.

WEG supplies transformers to provide energy in northern Colombia

Four substations located in Barranquilla, which are scheduled for commissioning in the coming months, will be supplied with seven WEG transformers, six of them in the range of 30MVA at 110kV, and one unit in the range of 50MVA at the same voltage. Regarded as essential for the substation operation, all transformers will be permanently connected.
This supply to INGEMA directly impacts the local development as the final customers AIR-E and AFINIA seek to improve the indicators and energy supply for the northern coast of Colombia, through the expansion of the capacity of energy transformation and distribution. Benefit of that is the improved reliability of the electricity grid.

WEG supplies one of the largest electric power generation equipment in Brazil for the sugar-energy industry sector

WEG will supply the largest backpressure steam turbine and the largest 4-pole generator in the Brazilian sugar-energy industry for Cerradão power plant. This is considered the world´s largest backpressure turbine in the sugar-energy sector.
Including a 60 MW backpressure BT steam turbine, a SuperTurbo gearbox, a 66.7 MVA, 4-pole, 13,800 V, 1800 rpm, 60 Hz ST generator and a complete protection, control and monitoring system with cabinets, panels, battery system and chargers, the contract will generate revenues of approximately R$ 15 million (approx. US$ 3 million) for WEG.
The BT turbine has the capacity to generate over 330 t/h of steam at 65 bar/520 degrees C, and will supply the plant process with two steam outlets, one medium pressure outlet and one low pressure exhaust. Scheduled to be delivered in December 2021, the equipment will be installed in the plant’s energy generation process, allowing the operation to be more robust, flexible and profitable.
As stated by Paulo Sinoti, WEG Energy Business Director, in addition to consolidating WEG as one of the main suppliers of equipment for the sugar-energy industry sector, this supply evidences the customer’s preference and trust in our products and services. “Cerradão power plant is already our customers list and has two turbogenerators in operation in the same plant”, says Paulo.
Cerradão power plant is located in the Frutal region, in the state of Minas Gerais since 2008. A power plant of 84 MW/h and installed capacity of 105 MW provides enough energy for approximately 230,000 people. With this investment, the Power Plant expects a significant increase in energy generation and a return on invested capital of approximately three years.

Alternators provide electric power to mobile workshops

With extensive experience of having already produced more than 38,000 MW of alternators, WEG offers a wide range of equipment for a wide variety of applications in different environments.
To meet a dedicated application, WEG has recently supplied 53 synchronous alternators with power rating ranging from 19 to 36.2 kVA to Impacto Implementos Agrícolas for mobile workshops named as maintenance trucks.
The alternators are driven by the truck diesel engine, allowing them to generate energy for the maintenance equipment in the truck such as, a grinding machine, presses, a bench drilling machine, a high-pressure pump, a welding machine, a lathe, a test bench and others.
These trucks are convenient for companies that want to have a mobile workshop with their fleet of machinery at a relatively low cost-benefit ratio. Counting on a big variety of machinery and accessories, companies can optimize any production line by serving as a mobile warehouse or providing 24 hours preventive and corrective maintenance, mechanical and oxy steel cutting, welding, deburring, drilling and mechanical services.
These mobile workshops can also be fully designed and equipped based on the specific customer needs, meeting their job requirements, whether in mining, heavy construction or farming areas.
Impacto Implementos Agrícolas is a company specializing in providing maintenance services and manufacture of logistics support road equipment for lubrication and supply of mechanized implements, firefighting tanks, landfill compaction, earthworks, street cleaning and irrigation services, transport and transfer of pesticides and fertilizers, mobile workshops for mechanical maintenance on construction sites.
